Sonic YouthSonic Youth was formed in 1981. The
original members were Thurston
Moore, Kim Gordon, Ann DeMarinis
and Richard Edson.
Before their debut album,
Sonic Youth, Ann had left but
Lee
Ranaldo joined the band. After their
first album Richard Edson left
Sonic
Youth to pursue a career with Konk.
Then for a brief period Jim
Sclavunos did Sonic's drumming and can be heard on Confusion
is Sex. From 1982 till 1985 Bob Bert was the drummer. He
drums on most of Bad Moon Rising. Since then Steve Shelley has been Sonic
Youth's drummer and saw them through the
rest of their DIY days until they were signed up by Geffen. Together with
their side projects
and solo albums, the members have been responsible for a
truely stagering number of
releases.
